The Angola football association has fired national team manager Mabi de Almeida following a string of negative results.
In an interview with AFP, FAF president Augusto Pereira da Silva Alvarito confirmed the decision. "This was an amicable decision taken by both sides. The national team has had some bad results and it is necessary to create a new psychological climate for the players so we can change how we work to improve our performance."
Angola qualified for the 2006 World Cup but are no longer in contention for the tournament's next edition, having been knocked out in the second round.
The 'Palancas Negras' did finish second in their group, but this was not enough to advance to the final round. The gap with group winners Benin was just two points.
