MADRID (AFP) - The final of the 2010 Champions League will be played in Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu stadium, the club announced on Friday.
European football governing body UEFA selected the Spanish capital ahead of Munich, Berlin and Wembley during their executive committee meeting Friday at Vaduz, Liechtenstein. It will be the fourth time that the Madrid stadium has hosted the final of Europe's premier football competition after 1957, 1969 and 1980. The decision comes four months after UEFA conferred the 'Elite Stadium' status on the Santiago Bernabeu, an essential condition for hosting European finals. The 2010 UEFA Cup final will take place in Hamburg. The German city beat Dublin, London and Gelsenkirchen, Germany for the right to host the final of Europe's second-tier competition. Hamburg last hosted the event in 1982. |
