LIVERPOOL (SW) - Liverpool manager Rafael Benítez has revealed his interest in Spain striker David Villa, but admits that it might be difficult to attract the player.

Villa, top scorer at the recent European Championships, plays his club football for Valencia and recently confirmed that he plans to stay "as long as he can".

Benítez will need to find a replacement for Peter Crouch, who is about to sign a deal with Portsmouth.

"In attack, we have Fernando Torres, Andrei Voronin, Dirk Kuyt and Ryan Babel. Steven Gerrard can act as second striker, but nevertheless we are looking for another forward. Villa's name is on our list, but his arrival is difficult," said the former Valencia manager.

Villa managed to become club top scorer in all of the three seasons he spent at 'los Ches'.

Liverpool would certainly need to pay an enormous amount of money to see David Villa move to the UK.
Thus far the transfer market hasn't produced any earth-shattering news, but if David Villa moves to Liverpool it will undoubtedly be one of the biggest transfers of the year.

i agree with you Gio. and wow what a strike force it would be with Villa and Torres upfront and Gerrad just behind them. It would make liverpool very very dangerous!

is Rafa being paid to bankrupt Liverpool ?

why don't he buy the entire Spain national team............LOL

SAJNSHE July 9th, 2008 16:58

I agree with BestalentScout
it better 2 buy all the spanish national because he is spanish , i dont care about this but this will make it difficult for the english national team

well.. possible or not.. i dont want 2 c villa at pool.. that'll render torres pretty much ineffective(u see ven playin for spain)... villa is da man upfront n torres holds up da ball for vila to complete his runs!!...
pool havin torres as a solitary striker is best for both.. pool as wel as torres(tho i'm a united fan!!)

Why 2 players from same position and same country? Is there any team that have got 2 same forward from same country proven working well outside of their home country? Maybe Rafa want to make some history or some kind...

after one more unsuccessful season with liverpool, he may not need to buy any longer players from the spanish national team, because he might become its manager :)
