MADRID (AFP) - Brazilian international striker Robinho said on Sunday he didn't want to be sold so Real Madrid could afford to bring Cristiano Ronaldo to Spanish champions Real Madrid from English Premiership titleholders Manchester United.
The 24-year-old told sports daily AS that he wanted to stay at Real where he has been for the past three years and not be offloaded to United's Premiership rivals Chelsea for a reported 40million euros as Real attempt to finance the 85million they wish to pay for Ronaldo.
"I hope to stay at Real this year," said Robinho, who cost Real 24million euros when they secured him from Santos.
"I don't want to be part of the Ronaldo deal."
Robinho, capped over 50 times by Brazil, has been selected for the Brazilian Olympic squad which Real have reluctantly accepted he can play in.

Dear Lord, where do they get all this money? Real Madrid spends as if they grow trees that produce euros!Tontodonati July 13rd, 2008 14:54
Most teams are deep in red. Soon a number of them will pay the real price!Crusader1987 July 13rd, 2008 15:45
I mean, I understand that sports teams are often toys for billionaires (see Chelsea, Fulham, etc.), but this is absurd. FIFA needs to do something to stop this before what happened to Leeds United happens to more teams.ajax72 July 13rd, 2008 17:40
RM isn't anybody's toy . They simply are 300+M Euro in debt. In Spain this is considered normal.babyboy July 13rd, 2008 19:06

What happens to Real Madrid when those debts come due for payment?FManiac24 July 13rd, 2008 19:31
Well... Real Madrid is a rich club, they achieved the biggest profit in the world in the season 2006/07, I thing something 'round half a billion euros, ManU was the second best, with not much less. So I think money is not the problem but the fact Real has too many stars and must get rid of one if Ronaldo comes and Robinho plays on the same position. I hope Ronaldo will stay at Old Trafford!ajax72 July 13rd, 2008 20:25
Usually the Mayor of Madrid, the King or the Prime Minister steps in. Not necessarily in this order.
