TOKYO (AFP) - It's been a bad few weeks for the Osim family.

Less than a month after Japan's national coach Ivica Osim suffered a stroke, his son Amar has been ousted as coach of JEF United Chiba.

The J-League side made the decision after they placed a lowly 13th place for the season.

"JEF United Ichihara Chiba have decided to terminate the contract with Amar Osim. The announcement of his successor will be announced at an appropriate time," the club said in a statement.

The 40-year-old Amar Osim, long considered to be in his father's shadow, took over at the team based in Tokyo's eastern suburbs when the elder Osim was named coach of the national side last year.

The elder Osim, a 66-year-old Sarajevo native who led the former Yugoslavia to the 1990 World Cup quarter-finals, came to Japan in 2003 and groomed JEF United into title contention.

A former Strasbourg striker, Ivica Osim became celebrated for his gruff cynicism and witty aphorisms.

He collapsed at home in the early morning on November 16 after watching an English Premiership match and only recently came out of a coma.

The Japan Football Association has replaced him with Takeshi Okada, who led Japan in their winless debut in the 1998 World Cup finals in France.
