WARSAW (AFP) - Polish sports minister Tomasz Lipiec has appointed Marcin Wojcieszak as the new commissioner of the troubled Polish Football Association (PZPN).
Wojcieszak, a 35-year-old legal expert and judge on the tribunal of Poland´s Olympic Committee, will manage PZPN affairs until elections are held in March.
He replaces Andrzej Rusko, who resigned after just over two weeks in the job. No reasons were given for his resignation.
Lipiec appointed Rusko after suspending the leadership of the country´s football association on January 19, accusing them of not doing enough to crack down on match fixing in an affair that stretches back two years.
World and European football governing bodies FIFA and UEFA have both refused to recognise the country´s new government-appointed football commissioner and have threatened to take sanctions against Poland.
