LISBON, May 25 (SW) - France are close to reaching the semi finals of the UEFA U-21 Championship, following a convincing win over Germany. Serbia & Montenegro meanwhile, are still alive after beating hosts Portugal.

France - Germany 3-0

Just before half time, France took the lead through Florent Sinama Pongolle, and Yoan Gouffran netted the second goal in the 72nd. Three minutes later, Antonio Mavuba added a third.

Portugal - Serbia & Montenegro 0-2

An own goal from Jose Castro helped Serbia & Montenegro to a 0-1 lead in the 17th minute, and Branislav Ivanovic scored the second goal in the 65th minute, two minutes after Jose Vitor Semedo was sent off for Portugal.

France now have six points from two matches, Germany and Serbia & Montenegro follow with three, and Portugal seem eliminated with zero points.
